OPP Film El Salvador: the First Stone Oct 15, 2014

On October 14th 2014, the first stone of the polypropylene plant was laid in El Salvador, positioning OPP Film El Salvador as the first manufacturing plant of its kind in the region. This plant will supply the Central America and Caribbean markets.

The act was presided by El Salvador´s Vice President, Mr. Oscar Ortiz, and Oben Holding Group´s CEO, Mr. Jamil Zaidan. They were accompanied by the Peruvian Ambassador, Mr. Eric Anderson and Mr. William Granadino, who was PROESA´s Chairman at the time being.

OPP Film El Salvador, a subsidiary of OBEN HOLDING GROUP, will become a referent of the Salvadoran industry by using German and British technology and by meeting high environmental standards. The estimated investment for this first BOPP line was 55 million dollars.

Project Manager, Eng. Armando Ruiz, stated that El Salvador was chosen for this investment, due to great competitive advantages such as: qualified workforce, low logistic expenses, a dollarized economy and a strategic geographic location, which allows reaching important markets in short periods of time.

A second investment of 45 million dollars is expected in the short term, which will allow a new production line to be built, in order to satisfy Mexico and USA´s demand.

OPP Film El Salvador will create 200 direct employment opportunities, plus 800 indirect ones; this will contribute to the social and economic development of the country and will mark the beginning of a growing plastic industry in El Salvador, Central America and the Caribbean.
